From memory it does time out, no way to adjust in stock settings either.

Yes it times out. Which is good. You know if you have an immediate reply, but if you set it aside for an hour you look at hub.

With the stock LED setting, I believe the notification will eventually cease. I'd recommend the Hub++ LED app. It will "play until dismissed." And, of course, there are other similar apps that will run the LED indefinitely.

The stock software times the LED out after 15 minutes.

I miss the old green flashing stile of the BOS 9780, I knew everything was OK and my Blackberry was "alive", now I only get red flashing led notifications. Is there any way to get the old style green style flashing light?.

The popular Hub++ LED Notifications app by Devcellent Solutions Inc. Another one is Bebuzz 10 Pro (made by Bellshare GmbH).

    I have idea for BlackBerry!
If there is save battery mode by turning device face down why there is no led on back? So you will know when you have new message and with led color control you will also know what kind of message it is.
