Improvements you would like to see in BlackBerry browser?
- More to say what I think the browser needs and see if those features are already there but I don't know, but would like to hear what others want added to the browser as well.
1. The most important feature for me in any mobile browser is "open tab in background" feature.
BB browser has it, but it requires you to hold on the link and take your finger off and then choose "Open in New Tab" from the right side menu.
I typically want to open a new background tab by simply long pressing the link.
There are, of course, other actions presented when you do a long press on the BB browser.
The solution would be to use gesture - long press a link, and without taking your finger off the screen, slide it to the right, and take your finger off over the action item you want to choose.
2. Put in a shortcut key for closing current tab, as well as a shortcut keys for "next/previous tab".
3. Just move the address bar to the top... it's so easy to touch the address bar inadvertently when you use the keypad as the scroll bar. Just move it or hide it and show it when a shortcut key is pressed.
1 and 2 are motivated by the fact that I browse web with a lot of tabs open at the same time (which is the whole point of tab browsing having become the undeniable standard in today's web browsers, which wasn't the case a number of years ago, right?).
My personal favorite mobile web browser is Sleipnir (Android), but it's not as smooth on Passport. I love the gesture based browsing (hey, it sounds familiar - I can't love gesture interface enough - part of the reason why I love BB10) and wish BB implemented something similar on the default browser.
Default browser is nice and fast but doesn't have these convenience features and the right interface for me.
I really hope they make it a bit better...david7saad likes this.11-26-14 08:26 AMLike 1 - I knew that, but it's not good enough. I meant a hotkey to actually really just close the current tab or move to different tabs, not opening the open tab view, where I need to select a tab I want to move to or the tab I want to close. Not to mention that "w" key is actually not that far from the open tabs view button at the bottom left of the screen.11-26-14 11:49 AMLike 0
- I disagree with some of your list..
But anyway
1 An option to use a custom user agent
2Private browsing should remember state when you close the browser
3Opening a new private tab should be as easy as opening the tab page and toggling private mode.. / private browsing shouldn't be burried in the settings
4 should be able to tap & hold on html5 videos to save them (chrome for android does it..)
4.1 EME support.. shouldn't be able to save those videos
5 ability to pin websites to the start page
6 additional start page options to show history, bookmarks and pinned sites. I don't like this "smart" page and probably have never used it..
7 you can "save page" but you can't save the reader mode generated page.. (Firefox can)
8 ability to open pdfs without downloading them
9 option for "auto play media?" because it's hella annoying and a serious data burner when I'm reading news websites and their stupid unrelated videos play in the background
10 when closing tabs, they should scroll in fixed positions.. ie, you should be able to tap the same spot 3 times to close 3 tabs.
11 ability to "favorite" tabs, so that they take priority and don't close in the background + reopen when you launch the browser
12 saving a website to the home screen should let it run in a separate window as a Web app
13 on a website, tap and hold on an image > share. It should share the cached image, not the link. Sharing the link should be a separate option. All third party browsers and apps that use the browser (rss apps for example) already include this feature (including BlackBerry's own password keeper)

But above all else, I prefer options. So I'd want an option for address bar placement
Also an option to "auto hide the address bar". It only hides in landscape mode in all touch devices.
The inability to 'long press + slide to menu' feels like a bug. It works everywhere else in the os
For example www.blackberry.com
And for a shortcut to close tabs, agreed. Also add an "undo close tab" for reopening accidentally closed tabs.

Although it was basically a non-issue for the Z-10 (and I suspect all full-touch phones), this drives me crazy on my Passport. It's the fact that you use the keyboard for scrolling that causes it. I've come to holding it in 'landscape' to avoid the problem, which is less than ideal.
I agree that having the option to put the bar on top, disappear unless you pull down, or some like solution would make this a non-issue for Passports as well and greatly improve the keyboard/trackpad's utility. Now if BB would only make the keyboard's trackpad function work across all apps & even allow you to swipe left & right to swipe through pages, photos, etc., they'd have taken this useful feature and made it into a potential game-changer.11-27-14 09:25 AMLike 0 - 1. Ability to organize bookmark lists and add folders.
2. Ability to split screen, at least in landscape for z10/30 and on passport
3. I can set my initial homepage but I'd like to see new tabs open to my homepage rather than that recent links page it currently defaults to.
4. Private browsing and desktop mode need to be far more convenient to access.
5. Ability to open pdfs without saving them!!
6. Enable swiping left/right from the side bezels to switch between open tabs.
7. Ability to pin Web pages to home screen

B1aze already confirmed compression to some extent still exists in BB10 data traffic. Let BIS die it's timely death please.

For this reason i'll email myself a link to videos I wish to see and watch them later on my ipad or laptop.

One of the biggest annoyances on larger phones (Note series, Passport) is the finger distance travel. Don't find it comfortable to stretch to reach the top of the screen to do something. If I could, I'd have all buttons and options all on the lower portion of the screen where they could be easily reached.
Posted via CB1011-27-14 12:42 PMLike 0 - I have two browsers, bb10 browser and Mozilla android. When I set desktop mode in those browsers, I can type in a site or in forum very quickly and smooth in mozilla or other android browsers. But when I am typing in the browser bb 10, it is very slow and not smooth, laggy. Strange, for surfing with bb browser faster than Android browsers, but for typing very slow. This is what I experienced in all os bb 10.2.1 / 10.3.0 / 10.3.1 on my bb Z3.
