You have to add the .apk extension onto the downloaded file first in order to run it. It's a funny quirk with Apkmirror.

You can also download Messenger PRO from Nemory and it works great. it's in BlackBerry World. Comes with HUB integration and for me that's a win.

Hi I agree with Drenegade use Disa it is the best way to use Facebook Messenger I have found and the notices come up in the hub. You might want to give this a try. I have been very happy with it. I'm using version 0.9.9 (316) / 33. Rocking 24-7 with my Passport OG & Semi Retired Z10

Try going to file manager and select file and go to properties. You can rename it there.

Go into the file manager, downloads, find where it downloaded, hold it till it gives you the option to rename it, then change it to messenger.apk. Then it'll be installable

I must admit, again, that Conite has breathed new life into my pp. I absolutely love this thing with apk's from apkmirror. I've downloaded so many awesome apps from there that I've fallen in love with my phone again.
