I think the closest you can get to that is :
Turn off any device password you might have set.

Display Settings → Swipe to Wake Enabled.
Security and Privacy Settings → Lockscreen → Allow Power/Lock Key to unlock Device Enabled.

That should make it so you almost never have to see the Lockscreen again.
There is no simple on/off switch, and advanced interactions such as "turn on screen for new notifications" will probably still show it.

Thanks Mr Glenn. Has removed the lock screen but seems to have 'promoted' an empty Home Screen in it's place so that is always showing first. Can't drag any app icons to it so just stuck with a blank opening screen whatever.

Turn off the empty homescreen in the settings..

Settings > Display > Show Wallpaper When All Apps Are Closed to Off
