So I just dropped my passport. All is good, and it was a pretty hard drop. When trying to catch it, my hand actually pushed it down to the floor making it fall at a much faster speed. It fell screen up, I noticed the notification light blink then the phone rebooted.

All booted up fine, no damage to phone at all. But is the reboot some sort of safety feature to prevent any sort of damage or something? Not sure what would've caused that.

Well, If I had to guess,I'd say it probably had something to do with you dropping your phone. (just my opinion, of course)

Yeah figured that. But dropping the phone doesn't exactly press the power button down. I ask if it's a safety feature because my laptop hard drives auto shut down when it senses being dropped to prevent damage. So wasn't sure if phone hard drives have the same sort of feature.

Your phone had a concussion. It's brain momentarily shut off, then woke up again slowly.

BlackBerry concussion protocol. It's mandatory now.

Good to know. Thanks for that. Would that mean there could be internal damage at all in the phone? It's been a few hours now, all seems to be fine with it.

Not sure what you're talking about, can you drop it again like an accident?

Impact my have compressed the electrolyte in the battery. This could have resulted in either a brown out or a voltage surge... or both.

I dropped mine face down onto asphalt.....no damage. And I mean 4 feet flat on the glass screen. Also...no red light came on.

It's been a day now and everything is still working completely fine. Guessing it was the concussion protocol some people in the thread mentioned.

This fall was also from about 4 feet. Other than the restart, nothing else happened. Not a scratch, Crack or any damage at all.

Built quality of real BlackBerry device.
At worst my BlackBerry would just loose the batt door, it was a 8700 model

    I agree. Gotta love it.

I've seen iphones break with falls half as bad as my passport went through yesterday. This phone should have no issues making it until my next upgrade. Just concerned about what to get next. Lol
