From what I've seen in one of the pictures of the passport where the led was blinking blue, it seems to be a smaller led version in comparison to the older phones like q10 or z10.
The passport's led is more likely similar to that of a z3.

That is what I missed the most when moving over to the iPhone. Constantly looking at the phone to see if a message came through unlike when I had my blackberry and all i had to do was glance at it to see the red light!

I honestly don't know why other phones don't put an LED. I love being able to put my phone on silent (no vib either) at work and just rely on the LED to know when emails come in. I hate that with my iPad I have to constantly turn it on to see if anything has come in. Seems like such a simple feature, so I'm surprised others don't copy. I very much doubt it's a patent issue.

A guy @ my work has an app or sumthin' for his iPhony4s that emulates this feature with the camera flash. Pretty lame.
