    Hello,

I've had my passport since October and love it but having issues lately. For the longest time had no idea why my phone would just mute itself or hang up in the middle of a call and was driving me nuts. A friend of mine noticed the screen still on while I was talking so I went through the bbve tests and the proximity sensor failed. I reset the phone ran the test and same thing happens. Rogers tech support says nothing they can do and if they send me a new one same thing will happen as this apparently is a very common issue with all passports.

What should I do? I love the phone but it is driving me insane as I keep hanging up or muting people. The issue is I'm on my phone a lot for work and I may need to resort back to my iphone.

Rogers at this point will not send me a new one or take it in for repair as there is currently no fix and I'm past the 30 day return period. I am about to call blackberry tomorrow and demand they do something but since rogers says all phones have the same issue and no fix I would just be waiting my time.

    What do you guys think?

It's an application that is causing that it bug with your current OS. I installed call blocker and the same thing started by happening with me just like your case! Try doing a factory re-install and load all of the apps PRIOR to this happening to find out which app is causing the issues!.

I did update to the latest firmware about 3 weeks ago when a message popped up on the phone when it was available.

Hi. I am also having the issue with the Proximity Sensor. While speaking the phone randomly connects to another contact or goes on mute or the keypad is activated and numbers are pressed. Need a solution if any...

I had the same issue once but a reset solved it... however, I don't think it's a common problem... a new pp won't necessarily will have the same issue... also, as someone else pointed it out, could be an app causing some problems in the background... good luck!

I have the white one (so pretty new production date) that has this same problem right out of box. Called blackberry tech support directly 877-552-5532 and they have logged it as an issue with the firmware. They say no one else has called in on these issues so might be good to have a few other fellows who are having this problem call them too. Note passport users get 30 day complimentary tech support from blackberry

Had my PP from early days, no issue with mine so maybe not as common as said

Guys: Just resolved mine. Peeled out the scratch guard which was probably hindering the sensor. Also did a hard reset by holding the volume up & down keys. Sersor working fine now. Must be the scratch guard issue.

I had the same issue on my red version, but the volume button reset process fixed it and it hasn't come back.

I've tried hard reset and even wiping all data from the phone and start fresh. Nothing worked for me. I'm really frustrated as Rogers tech support just tells me to wait till they have a fix for this. I'm about to switch back to my iPhone as calls can become quite annoying when I keep muting or hanging up on someone

I would get the device replaced. Contact Rogers and ask to be put through to BlackBerry support. From there try to arrange an RMA.

I had the same issue. It was a screen protector. Removed it and sensor worked again.

I've never had that problem but I put a Noreve Case on my Passport and it interfered with the GPS functioning. Took me a few months to figure that out. Love the case too, so I just take it out of the case when using the GPS.
