It looks like the initial batch of apps being supported for Passport are the Q10 ones. I got an email from BlackBerry saying that they will auto support the Passport any of my Q10 apps. Deadline for opting out, August 8th. We are almost to release.

Too bad, I wish they could expand and include all the Z10/Z30 apps too since it will fit within the screen.

It'd fit the screen but it'd have those ugly black bars

Wouldn't you prefer ugly bars versus no apps at all?

Look at how many apps the Q10 doesn't have access to. Do that math.

The apps would fit but they'd be blurry and pixilated

Depending on the app. Most BFB and Native apps will scale and look pretty great unless they use exterior graphics with lower resolution.

    If it's a game or non-native, then you're right.

I was mainly referring to games. BB Apps shouldn't have too much of a problem. android apps shouldn't have a problem either since all android apps are made for a large variety or size scaling

Do you know of many Android apps that support 1:1 ratio screens?

They won't look as good as native resolution but if the scaling is good, most people won't tell the difference unless you a/b compared them.

Scaling is done all the time and no one complains. Some HD broadcasts are in 720p but they are displayed on a 1080p screen. Can you tell which ones?

When I say so the math, I mean literally. Passport has 4x the resolution of Q10. That means each pixel becomes exactly 4 pixels on a Q10. Plus, if there is scaling in hardware or software, there will be anti aliasing to smooth things out where needed. This is easy scaling because the math works easily.

I know of many android devices with 1:1 ratio therefore there must be apps that are compatible with them..

1Mobile Scales pretty perfectly, but of course it's optimized for multiple screen sizes and resolutions.

MyBucketList scaled perfectly as-well and it's a Native BlackBerry 10 app.

Both good examples of two different markets, scaling automatically for the device.

The bb10 app only has to be enlarged if it's available for q10. Can you try an application only for z10 and z30?

Errr they were talking about bars because they want the z10 apps to be automatically supported.

We'll go do some math while you learn to read.

If Blackberry said so, no matter how strong you are in math, it will support Q10 apps and we have to wait for others to be compatible or not.

I assume Z10 apps would be usable, with or without black bars, but only Blackberry can decide for its consumers' users experience.

Do you have a very small tv or a very big phone?

Seriously, it is very well known that the ability to perceive resolution increases is a function of screen size and viewing distance.

The smaller the screen, the closer it needs to be to see resolution increases.

With TVs, we generally talk about viewing from a certain number of screen widths. The same concept is true with phones or tablets. For most people, regardless of screen size, they tend to view at between 1.5 and 2.5 screen widths (assuming a 16x9 screen).

The Passport actually quadruples resolution but will apparently up sample Q10 Apps. This is functionally equivalent to decreasing the Passport's resolution to 720x720. But, with things like anti aliasing, it is a little more difficult to make that claim.

People will view the Passport a little further back than a Q10. This will ameliorate the resolution issue. With such high resolution to begin with, it is really not much of an issue.

    Do the math.

You seem to be talking about something unrelated, which is not surprising given your previous failures to understand the topic being discussed.

Failing to understand what people are talking about, and then telling them to do math, only makes you look stupid.
