I had removed Google Play and needed an app, I tried googling the apk and found that I can find most apps that way. Then just install OTA.

    Anyone else try that?

No. I never download APK files directly from the internet.

However some Android users are likely to download APK files from the internet, for ex. in case an app is country restricted.

If I want an Android app, I use my Android phone and get it on Google Play Store, then I back up the APK file and transfer it to my BB phone either via bluetooth or put it on the BB's sd card using my computer.

I find it less risky, Eset on Android automatically scans my apps, plus I have the lastest updated Android app.

I have also intalled Eset for Android on my BB phone. Eset won't scan BB OS but Android apps though. And it works.
