Been testing out the power saving mode on BlackBerry Passport. Question: what does the OS actually does to save power? It does turn off the screen, but what else does it do to save battery?

It turns things off (or down)...

They tell you in the Battery Saving Mode application... and you can chose some of the actions to enable or not.

It's basically turning this off that you may can do without to extend the remaining battery life once it reaches your set critical level. Most of these are the same options that are suggested in most of the TIPS for extending battery life that can be found here on CrackBerry. This app automates the process so you don't have to live with a crippled device the whole time you are using it.

You said you were playing with the Power Saving Mode....

Not sure what your version of 10.3 has in the Power Saving Mode "app" that is under the Settings. I'm on 10.3.1.1016, there maybe a difference in the features between 10.3 and 10.3.1

Indeed I said that, and I was not clear. Was turning the phone face down over night and then having it face up during the morning part to compare the battery drainage curves. Had no idea that there was a app for setup the battery saving mode.

    I am on PassportSQW100-1/10.3.0.1418

After using the device with power acing turned on and then off to Guage the difference, it was quite remarkable! Power saving mode really gave me a bit of a few hours extension in battery power use!

Jepp, similar experience here. Although turning the screen brightness down to fifty percent made a huge difference for me.
