I often change my battery since I have an extra one. Most of the time, I have to rely on the second battery because I don't have the time to charge the phone, and I find the charging time is also very slow. Thus, I open the battery cover quite a lot. And since it is quite difficult to open the battery cover, what I do is I pop open the middle on the bottom gap and then slide my nail to pop the side of it.

Recently, I realized that there are marks on my bottom bezel. It looks like some paint have chipped off. I though the bezel was supposed to be all metal but instead, it looks like it was painted silver over it.

I still love the phone, but just a little disappointed with this, as I expected more of the quality. See pictures below.

    Thoughts?

Pretty bad quality for a phone that expensive. I'd claim warranty

You're honestly the first one I've heard of or seen with this problem so far. Check with the Porsche Design Store where you got it, they'll replace it for free. Seems like no PD Berry is free from those little problems at launch.

I bought this overseas and it's a hustle to get this exchanged. I just never thought that my finger nail can damage a $2500 phone bezel.

Any Porsche Design store will assist you with this, you don't need to go to the same store you bought it from.

i didn't believe it myself at first, but i never drop the phone or bump it against anything, really have extra care on it.
then i realise that i always slide my nail to that side when i try to open the battery door.

Is the frame whole made of stainless steel or just painted plastic like the bottom of the Q10?

Feels like painted metal to me, but maybe the bottom part where the antenna sits is just plastic like on earlier PD models

The bottom of the bezel is plastic because of the antennae and radios. The rest is metal.

It's the same with the Q10. The bottom part of the phone is plastic, so after about a month, the silver paint on the white model starts to wear off... They should really use better paint, especially on an expensive model like the P'9983.

Courious if the Graphite version fixes this issue or not?
Seems like the paint on the Graphite version really looks different

I was going to buy this graphite while visiting the uk, luckily I didn't.
BlackBerry is not to be trusted with hardware. My passport bought from shopblackberry.com has issues with the volume up since day 2 and now the logo has brown copper lines.

Obviously nothing a warranty can't fix but I am in Bolivia South America, I think I might be getting a Samsung they have support here.

I dont know if the bezel can be so easily chipped or not, and don't know if the Graphite version is as easy as the standard version.

I've had mine for a little over a month and have removed the battery a number of times and have yet to see any chipping of the bezel.

That's a very good point. When I had the black bezel on my Q10, there was no fading paint because the plastic was molded in that color. There was no paint to fade. It looks like the graphite edition would be the same as the black-bezeled Q10.
