Battery Cover for P'9981>
Hi,
Anyone knows hows to to get a replacement Battery Cover (the Leather covered one) for the P9981. Apparently, neither the Porsche Design Shops, Brightpoint (authorised distributor), or RIM Office cannot provide information on where to purchase a replacement Battery Cover.
It is unfortunate that the service and support of RIM for its normal BB is bad enough. For the P9981, it is even worst !
Thanks for any links on where to get the back cover. - 04-19-2012, 06:58 AM

The PD Store in ION does not carry the P'9981 and have no information regarding the P'9981.
Only the PD store in MBS carries the P'9981 but does not have the battery cover. They only carry cases and battery. No point asking Deltech in Funan or Brightpoint (Blackberry distributor) .......they will tell you that the P'9981 has not been officially launched in Singapore.

The London Porsche Design Store is the BEST!!
Bought my PD P'9981 from MBS Singapore. After a few weeks of usage, my battery cover could not close properly and I requested for help on sourcing for a cover from PD Store in MBS. PD MBS said they do not have it and directed me to Deltech Funan (which is also Brightpoint - distributor of Blackberry in Singapore). Was informed by Deltech that P'9981 has not been launched in Singapore and as such they cannot bring in the cover !!!!
Finally, contacted London Porsche Design store and they sent me a replacement battery cover via courier .....FREE OF CHARGE. This is Delighting the Customer and bringing Customer Service to an All New Level. Kudos to the London Porsche Design Store. - 04-28-2012, 09:06 PM #10

It is very strange that replacement parts like battery covers and accessories like holster and cases are commonly available for other Blackberry models. However, for the P'9981 it is like looking for water in the desert.

If you know how to use the phone without the case that's great!! In any case, you can always get a full housing change for USD290. With that you get a new stainless steel housing as well as a new battery cover.
You can either have several options:
A) Buy a leather spray and respray your battery cover http://www.professionaldye.com/produ...her-cote-black
B) Buy 2 sets of P'9981 and keep one as spare like me
(I believe the price will appreciate as the phone gets obsolete)
C) Buy a 9900 and keep the P'9981 as spareLast edited by HK Low; 07-17-2012 at 09:24 AM.

He can just lube it like mine or shield it with the frictionless tape like your.

I think that's just the normal wear of the leather. Case or no case.
While I doubt the leather will wear out all the way, I do think with use and contact with any non smooth surface the textured leather will "smoothen" to what you see at the corner.
If you really want to protect the leather maybe you can look into applying a coat of leather hardener. There are plenty of online resources to teach you how to find/do it. - 07-17-2012, 08:16 PM

I guess with everything, if you have 2 surfaces contacting each other all the time........there will be wear and tear. So the conclusion is either of these options:
1) Medical Grade Lubricant
2) Leather harderner
3) Spray Paint your leather with leather spray
4) High Viscosity SAE Motor oil 0W20
5) Dip it in liquid Acrylic and wait for it to harden
6) Buy Leather skin like from ZAGG to re-paste on your battery cover
Anymore to add to the list

I am thinking of removing the leather and getting the battery cover covered in Carbon Fibre.
