Fightin' Words Notifications (or lack of)
So I just got Fightin' Words, and one of the options is "enable push notifications"
For some reason, this doesn't work unless i actually have the game open and the player I'm playing with goes. if i have more than one game up, and i'm on the main screen waiting for any of the other players to go, i don't get notified.
does anyone know what's going on with push notifications for fightin' words?? - 06-28-2011, 04:30 PM #2
Hi Sephir00th,
I'm the product manager for Fightin' Words. We figured out what the issue with this was and it will be fixed in our upcoming 1.2 release.
From what I understand, we are having to create a different entry point in the main method for the UI. By having this alternate entry point we'll know what state the application is in (right now it's not returning the correct info).
This release should be out in about a week.
Thanks for playing Fightin' Words!

Cole,
Thanks a lot for letting me know about this. I look forward to the update. - 07-03-2011, 09:01 AM #4
Updates
Yes, notifications are a MUST, without them this game (or any word game) is worthless. Also, will there be chat coming? Ways to delete finished games, auto resign if on player hasn't played a move in 5-7 days?
Thanks! Look forward to some improvements! The game has a lot of potential! - 07-25-2011, 04:42 AM #6
I ended up getting 1.16 cuz the latest hasn't hit the cb appstore and I get notifications

so i had push notifications with 1.2, updated the OS on my torch to the most recent one (6.0.0.600) and lost push notifications.
i'm trying to re-download fightin' words off the crackberry store but now it says it's trying to install 1.16. what's going on?! - 07-27-2011, 02:21 PM #8
I'm thinking maybe it's an error on which version because if 1.16 wasn't supposed to have notifications then somethings wrong because I have them and that's the version I got.

Even though the app is currently discounted in appworld to $.99, I would still love a trial version. As noted above, this game only works for me IF the push notifications work correctly. If not, even $.99 is not worth it to me.....

Hi bfosti,
Chat is coming and opposing play will resign if no moves by 7 days. Thanks for your support. We added a leader board to our website. Leaderboards | Fightin' Words - 08-09-2011, 10:00 PM #12
@9700FTW, email support and we'll send you a link to revert back to 1.22 if you'd like.
We are working hard on testing all of the various network configuration possibilities. Previously we were using a hand coded ConnectionFactory and then chose to switch to the RIM version that came out in 5.0. However, older 5.0 OS's have some bugs in the ConnectionFactory and was causing some issues on certain phones.
As to your slowness, I'm not sure why that would be. I actually noticed a significant increase in speed on my 9700, due to the RIM ConnectionFactory being more efficient.
However, we are re-rolling our own connectionfactory and improving it so that it can be a second option for people who's phones aren't playing nice with the RIM connectionfactory.
Thanks for playing Fightin' Words!
