So if we decide to switch to Storm 2, and assuming the apps developed for Storm 1 still work with Storm 2, you think we'll have to repurchase all the 3rd party apps we already picked up for our first device? That may be a deal breaker for many, some apps like Garmin Mobile cost $80.
The normal apps no. They can be migrated with the Switch Device Wizard in DM. The ones that require activation by PIN, depends on the license you bought for each software and the company that made it.
Of course, if it releases with OS5 some apps may not work until updated for that new platform, but this would hold true for the current Storm as well.

I can say that for Garmin, I had to move it to a replacement Storm (different PIN) and it worked fine. I'm not sure they are actually using that feature.
