I've installed so many apps, before finding out they are not start-able because I don't have a data plan.

Why do so many apps require that you have a data plan? I have wi-fi everywhere I go, so I have no need for it.

Here's a list of the some of the offending apps:
Blackberry Podcast - You can specify to download only over wifi but the app will not start without a data plan.
    Facebook
    Google Maps - why can't I view a map while I'm in a wi-fi zone.
    Foursquare

Because RIM wants you to buy a data plan.
