The Carphone Warehouse are currently doing an offer where you get �20 worth of free applications. Although I didn't buy my phone from Carphone directly, I did buy it from one of their sister companies (mobiles.co.uk).
What you have to do is go to their website on your phone (www.mycpwapps.com) and enter the IMEI of your phone (usually found on the box) and this allowed me to download the applications. This may be because mobiles uses Carphone stock, or it might not check whether the IMEI is from Carphone so it may work with phones bought from anywhere!
