Is there anyone out there that could make an app to show your actual dbm for cdma carriers. For example I have verizon and my signal strength never shows above -80 dbm even though that may not be my true signal. I would love to have this app on my phone so I could know my real signal strength. Thanks!

Well apparently I'm by myself in thinking this is a good idea for an app I also thought it would be pretty simple to make I guess I'm wrong

The problem with writing an application like this is that how would app get the "true" dbm? Developers dont have direct low level access to the hardware. Any API call is going to return the same value that you are seeing now.

So what your saying is that this kind of app couldn't be made to show the true dbm?

Hang on, give me 15 mins, I'll write a quick app that displays the current signal strength and you can try it.

Ahh, you tried the OTA link on the 1st page of that thread - which needs updating (i.e. 404 error msg).

Here is the actual OTA link :
    http://f5bbutils.fairview5.com/signa.../signalloc.jad

    Code:
    http://f5bbutils.fairview5.com/signalloc/download/signalloc-1.0.1259/ota/signalloc.jad
Edit : FYI. Tower Location does not seem to work on the VZ Blackberry's (as VZ do not enable it on their network). However, everything else should work.

Hold down ALT and type "NMLL"

This will only show you up -80 dbm and then it stops for example your actual signal could be -45 dbm and it will still only read -80 dbm
