I'm still new to blackberry/tour but I noticed that when I send an SMS message I can only type 160 characters even to other Verizon users. On my old phone you could keep typing over 160 and it would send as one text to other Verizon users. I was wondering if this is possible on the Tour, and if there is some setting I could change to fix this. I hope this question will make sense, and someone will know what I'm talking about.

If you have Verizon you need to get an app called beyond 160. If you have ATT they dont have the 160 limit, it will keep going. Thats about what I know.

This is a well known limitation with Blackberries and CDMA networks. There si no native way to type more than 160 characters. If you search these forums, you will find multiple threads discussing this topic. Suffice it to say, there are 3rd party apps like Beyond 160 which will seamlessly break your text into multiple messages, there is threaded texting on OS 5.0, or you can use MMS which has a much larger character limit. These are your viable options at present. Enjoy your tour.

Beyond 160 or Textender... BBM doesn't have those limitations either if you are texting a someone else with a blackberry.

I thought the general consensus was to just send an MMS. But meh, these days with everyone having smartphones, its just seamless for me to fire off an email instead.

^ to add to this, with textender, how are incoming SMSes treated? do they go into a separate folder and we get 2 alerts for every incoming message? or is it integrated into the messages folder and only one alert is triggered?
