Hi all newbie to this site and to BB moved over to blackberry from trusted nokia had a garmin turn by turn program on this and was very good my problem is that i cannot find any free apps for turn by turn navigation for bb 8520, Does anybody know of any that are free? i do also have a stand alone GPS unit any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 8520 does not have GPS so even if you manage to find a free GPS turn-by-tunr app, it will be wasted on the device.

You could pair the GPS navigator you have with the 8520 using bluetooth thou and use Google Maps or BlackBerry Maps. It won't work as good as Garmin, but it is a start.

even with a stand alone gps unit paired to device? i believe garmin do a purchased program for 8520 so must work somehow

Well you asked for free. Free, BlackBerry/Google Maps + bluetooth paired to GPS.

Did you check the link I posted? I actually found some very interesting things there.

There are some free turn-by-turn applications. None of them are what I would call "good".
