[Open Beta] SearchIt for OS6, add search engines to Universal Search
- Some of you may be familiar with my app SearchIt SearchIt - Utilities BlackBerry Apps - Crackberry BlackBerry Apps Store
Originally I had planned just to add Universal Search into it, but I just ended up re-writing it so now its a whole new app for OS 6.
The concept is simple, added web search providers to Universal Search, including up to 3 custom ones you can set yourself.
The options are basic, you can set SearchIt to either load the full version of the site or mobile when you search. This is also dependant on the site you are visiting, some will auto re-direct you to the mobile site.
Custom Sites:
Code:The search address of a site must include the search string as part of the URL. To simplify: http://www.google.com would NOT work, the complete Google URL with search string looks like this: http://www.google.com/m/search?q= To find the search string you can either do it through the BlackBerry web browser on or on your computer. In this example we will use the BlackBerry browser. Launch the browser and visit the site you wish to add. We will be using flickr for this example. The mobile site for flickr is http://m.flickr.com with the BlackBerry browser. Once on the site enter some text into the search box and click the search button. From the results screen bring up the browser menu and select “Page Address”. The URL that is returned looks like this: http://m.flickr.com/search/?q=testing&sig=&s=&m=text The part that we want is before our search word, so http://m.flickr.com/search/?q= is our search URL that you can enter into SearchIt.
AllRecipes, Amazon, APNews, BerryReview, Bing, CNN, CrackBerry, Dictionary, Ebay, Flickr, Google, GoogleImages, GoogleMaps, GoogleNews, IMDB, Thesaurus, Twitter, WebMD, Wikipedia, Yahoo, Youtube,

Living in Canada, I'm sure you're aware that when you get the Google.com screen you're also given the the option to search via your country-specific Google site, if you live outside the US.
So, how about an option for adding other countries' Google, with a dropdown list of countries.
Then adding your country-specific Google site could be one of your 3 custom sites.
What do you think?01-10-11 06:11 PMLike 0 - Awesome app. I'm using a 9700 on OS6 .424
There are three instances of the "http://" option, is that intentional? Also, after the beta ends will this become a paid app? What's the function of the Registration field?
edit: I guess the http repeats are for the custom searches?01-10-11 06:13 PMLike 0 - Awesome app. I'm using a 9700 on OS6 .424

SearchIt is a paid app. This is an open beta for the next major upgrade up to v2.0.
Typically, you could download the app and have it as a free trial until you entered the Activation Code. (Might be mistaken, but I think Shao usually does 1 week for the free trials.)01-10-11 06:28 PMLike 0 - If you leave the custom as http:// and name it something like 'Open URL' you can open URLs directly from your search instead of having to open the browser first.
Maybe you can add this as an official option so that it translates spaces into '.'.

01-11-11 01:04 AMLike 0 - Oh and be fair, if you have cnn you gotta have fox Search for xxxxxx
Although I dunno if that'll work, their mobile site doesn't have search.

01-11-11 01:17 AMLike 0 - This is a really good app I didn't know, i'm testing it already.
I have a question :
Why did you put search for Ebay, Google and Youtube?
Since those are already in the search engine on the phone ?
Now I have them twice01-11-11 01:37 AMLike 0 -
You can uncheck them in search options. Google is two different methods of search. One uses the mobile site the other uses the mobile app installed on your phone (if you have it).01-11-11 08:00 AMLike 0 -

Actually, I do have one idea I've been meaning to mention to you for awhile now...

Yes it will be a paid app, beta testers get a free copy (those who leave useful feedback
This will be a whole new app so it will be independant of previous versions.
This version is for OS6 only, SearchIt 1.7x will run on previous OSs, see the link at the top of my first post for more info.snowfree52 likes this.01-11-11 05:30 PMLike 1 - Awesome app! Would it be possible to change "E-Bay" to "eBay" and "IMDB" to "IMDb"? Really picky, but would look even more official. Great job.01-11-11 06:21 PMLike 0

- Love the app!
It would be cool if you could add facebook, fatwallet, slickdeals and/or techbargains. I know we can add custom searches, but I'd prefer to see the corresponding icons to the above sites instead of the general magnifying glass.
EDIT: redbox, too, pls!Last edited by saclifford; 01-26-11 at 03:15 PM.

- Sorry, I was unclear in my post and maybe it doesn't even belong in this thread, but I thought it could be answered. I was referring to version 1.7. It says it is compatible with the native browser, Bolt and Opera 5, but mine does not recognize Opera 5.1. I was just wondering if that is supposed to be the case.01-14-11 07:15 PMLike 0
- Awesome. One big request: please change the Wikipedia search to use the newer "en.m.wikipedia.org" site as opposed to the older mobile site. The newer one looks soooooo much better.01-20-11 11:59 AMLike 0
- Thanks to everyone for testing, Ill be releasing later this afternoon. I didnt add any extra sites since the beta, but I will. I want to focus on PCKeys the next couple weeks then Ill update SearchIt again. I just wanted to get this version out there.
I'll send out codes this evening to all the beta testers.
Also the person who asked about "eBay" and me having "E-Bay" it was intentional. Otherwise if its lower case the OS puts it at the bottom of the list over everything that has capitals.01-28-11 01:56 PMLike 0
