I've downloaded two apps from AppWorld (most recently an app from weather channel) and although I can access it fine from AppWorld, I can't figure out how to have the icon be in my home screen. Any suggestions?

Go to the icon in the Downloads folder and highlight it.
Press the Menu button.
Select Move to Folder.
Select Home.
Repeat as needed.

Unfortunately, there is no icon for the weather channel. THe only way I can access the app at all is to enter AppWorld and go to "My World". From there I can open it.

But I appreciate your help/attempt to help!

Have you looked in ALL the folders?
Have you checked to make sure the icon is not HIDDEN?

You can also check to be sure it is on your phone, even though you do not see the icon. Go to: Options>Applications and look for it in the lists available. Be sure to check both third pary and Add-on. You can get to Add-on from the dropdown menue in the upper right hand corner of your screen when you are in applications.

If you see the app listed, then it is somewhere on your phone. If you don't see it, then it is not installed.

Where is the downloads folder on Playbook? I have downloaded two apps and they are in the "MY WORLD" but they don't show up on my home screen so I can use them.

Newbie here...have no idea.
