This one is very technical. I have tried several different 8530's from both Verizon & Sprint. Until today, every single one has the same problem with google maps. It does not pinpoint my exact location no matter where I am. This works on my 8330, the Tour, the storm2 and AT&T's bold 9700. Storm 1 works sometimes. I've also seen this problem with the Droid Eris. I first thought it was an issue with 5.0 until I saw it work on the Bold 9700. I have spoken with several techs from VZW and Sprint and Blackberry and no one knows what the **** I'm talking about. Google apparently can't be contacted for anything. I need this to be precise because I drive 1000 miles a week and need to know quickly where I am. The VZW navigator and Sprint navigation can both pinpoint my exact location on the 8530's I've tried and all the permissions are set to "allow" and the GPS is on "location on" not 911 only. The software is 5.0.0.337 and the platform is 4.2.0.136 on the VZW 8530 and Sprint is 5.0.0.395 and platform 4.2.0.167. The only difference I can see is the "Branding Version" which on the one that finally worked at a Sprint store was 1.0.104.2930. I noticed that the branding versions were different on different 8530's within the same carrier. Is the branding version the difference maker? If so, can I get this on any 8530 by downloading something? Also, Verizon may have the strongest signal but Sprint seems almost as strong and I think has better voice quality and faster data. Am I wrong?
    Thanks

I had a 9530 that used to know exactly where I was all the time. I've played with several other models including friend's bold, my replacement 9530, and more recently a 8530, none of them know precisely where I am.

I too would like to know what is going on. Did verizon change something within the firmware?

I believe that this is an issue with A-GPS. Although I am not certain. This happened to me as well with my replacement 8330m. My old 8330 would find my GPS but my replacement 8330m would not. I think it has to do with the type of GPS used. Last I heard Google was working on it but not certain.

BlackBerry Maps will pinpoint your location on an 8530. You can use that until Google gets it fixed.
