so i was upgrading my phone from .167 to .191 becuase i want .230 and i read you have to put .191 on first.. and everything was running smooth until it got to "wait for device initialization" the green bar goes and than it says "the desktop loader is unable to connect to the device. You may need to enter the password on the device."
i have no password on the phone... i can use my phone and its .191 and i can do everything i just dont have anything of mine.. should i just go ahead and put .230 on it and hopefully it restore the stuff or is there a folder where the app loader puts the backed up stuff that i can find and restore it with DM
You should always back up before you do an OS install unless you don't care about the data on your phone.
If something goes wrong, like in this case, chances are that you will lose everything.
I'm pretty sure you didn't follow the instructions like many people do on this site and then get mad because they brick their phone or lose their data.
im not mad.. im just confused i read that you were suppose to put .191 on my phone than put .230 or whatever maybe i read it wrong but is there any way to get the data that was backed up during the "app loader" process
On phone can't post link, but you need to go look at some .230 thread to read instructions again. You should uninstall everything except for DM, install .191 only on computer and than install .230 on top of that only on the computer. And don't forget to remove internal tools after .191 install. After you do all this u need to delete vendor file and use apploader to upgrade your phone.

You need to COMPLETELY REMOVE ALL OSs and OS folders from your computer. Then go in and install .191 on your computer and remove RIM internal tools from your add/remove programs. Install .230 right over the top and then remove vendor.xml file. Now you're ready to rock. Plug your phone into the comp and run the apploader and you'll have your new OS in a few minutes
I think the apploader creates a file where you would usually store your backups. Not sure if it is only temporary though.
But you might have to go back to your last back up.
