Since Google launched their new free voip calling I've seen several references to it's ability to be used with smart phones. Has anyone tried this on a BB yet?

Yeah, I have. There's a couple posts on here about it.
It does use your cell minutes, and it would be nice if the messaging in the app was push, but other than that I don't have any complaints with it.

But the current GV app for BB is not a VOIP app.

No it's not. Hopefully there'll be one before too much longer.

At least it let's you bypass all text messaging charges using the app. I refuse to pay for text messaging, so I don't have a text plan but I can text all day long and the only disadvantage is that incoming messages are at least a 5 minute delay since the program doesn't use push.

For those with Verizon, you can add the google call center number to your friends and family and make all google calls free!
