Not sure about Verizon, but I did it on my bold 9700 with AT&T. First time I clicked Map it, it asks which mapping program you want as the default and if Google Maps is installed it should allow you to choose that.

Same on TMO. Why wouldn't it work on Verizon?

Works fine for me on by VZW 9550. You can also hit the BB key and choose "Options & Settings" to reach the default maps setting & others.

Seems our messages crossed. Do you have Google Maps installed? Maybe an uninstall/reinstall would work.

If I want the route mapped it uses BBMaps. If I just want to see where it is it uses Google Maps. If I go to settings Google Maps is not listed under navigation.

    Umm, HOW?

I'm using Poynt v 1.5.4.12 with Google Maps 4.2.0 on a Verizon 9630 running OS 4.7.1.61. In the Poynt settings for Mapping I have a choice of Google Maps or BlackBerry Maps. For Navigation my only option is BlackBerry Maps. Google Maps is not on the drop down list. I think that's the same scenario you are describing.

For what it's worth, when I was running Telenav, it was an option for Navigation. I now use Garmin Mobile. It is not a navigation option in Poynt.

Thank you jeff. I wonder why it only navigates with BBMaps. Is that a question for Poynt or a Verizon limitation?

I assume Poynt doesn't offer the option to navigate with Google Maps because Google Maps can't rotate to show direction of travel up. That severely limits its usefulness as a Nav app. I have no idea why Telenav can be used but not Garmin. That may be a licensing or rights issue.

If the non-Verizon users who are posting can use Google Maps for Nav in Poynt, then maybe it is a Verizon issue. I've never used Poynt on anything but a Verizon BlackBerry so I have nothing to compare to.

    I guess I didn't realize google didn't rotate. I guess I'll quit worrying.

The only option is BBMaps for navigation. You can use BBMaps or Google Maps for mapping a location.

    I'm on TMO BTW.

Thanks for clarifying this isn't a Verizon issue.

This is the first time you've mentioned anything about navigation. As others have noted, you can set Google Maps as your default map, but not for navigation.

Integration with other 3rd party navigation apps depends heavily on whether the application in question can accept and do something with address data. Telenav has this capability, as does Telmap and VZNavigator. We are exploring how other mapping applications can work with Poynt.

With respect to Google Maps, there should be no issue with integration on any BlackBerry, regardless of network.

Google Maps and navigation with Poynt? Stay tuned
