Does anybody know if the Gmail app works when there's an outage? Was thinking to set it up as a backup for my work emails. I had this problem once in the past and luckily I could still get the emails when on wifi.

i dont think the app offers push does it? either way, im not sure if the app requires BB data in order to work. if it doesnt and just requires a carriers data connection, then it should still work during an outage (over carrier and wifi networks). if it relies on blackberry data in order to work, like facebook does, then it too will be down.

Nope, no push email but I could manually refresh every 5 minutes or something like that.

yea but like i said, most BB apps require being connected to blackberry data services. if it doesnt require that, then it can be used over just wifi or your carriers network. if not, they if RIM servers/data is down, so will your app.

No BlackBerry data plan, only regular GPRS data. Gmail works very well. No WiFi support though.

Cool, thanks. From past experience when there was an outage on Orange network BIS still worked trough wifi, I kept drifted from hotspot to hotspot to check mail
