I don't like the calendar on the bb curve. Wondering if anyone knows of a good dayplanner/calendar that I can download for free? Either on appworld or something else?

One app that improves on the native calendar is XCalendar. It basically uses the same set up/view of the native one but you can see what appointments you have in monthly view. It's free in App world.
Another option is Calender Pro. You can use colour codes for different catergories. It's in beta at the moment so it's a little buggy, but again it's free!
It's not on App World but if you follow the link on your BB it should give you a link to download OTA (Over the air). Which means it should download directly from the website to your BB.
