I developed a little app that can show a lot information about the current mobile network a Blackberry normally doesn't show. For example a signal strength graph, MCC, MNC, CellId...
There is also an alarm for base station changes (green LED + vibrate alarm).
If you really want to know what your cellphone is doing check it out:
cellmon.mooo.com
works on OS 4.7+, but NOT on CDMA devices, obviously.
I redid the signal strength graph which looks much better now. Also I added RSSI values + graph cause these are apparently different from the signal strength values.
OTA download here:

(can anybody please post the full http url? Cause I'm not allowed to... )

I would def use it if you could somehow incorporate Wi-Fi connection info such as signal strength. Then it could be a single source for all important network info.

Unfortunately I don't have any WIFI Blackberry at the moment and the simulator crashes with everything WIFI related..
Anyway I did a WIFI screen! But there is no chance for me to test it.
So ... if you have WIFI hardware are willing to help me please pm or mail me. Maybe I can do a WIFI graph then too.
And "Wi-Fi" and not "Wifi" or "WiFI". And remove the "CellMon will exit now" dialog. Include spacebar to toggle between network info, signal level and Wi-Fi, or "e", "s" and "w".

1. Wi-Fi info should display what the device displays when viewing "Network Details" of a profile (in the following order):
Profile - OK
SSID - OK
Security - Missing from CellMon
Signal - OK
Data Rate - OK (CellMon addition)
AP MAC - OK
Device MAC - Missing from CellMon
Channel - OK (Radioband)
Network - Missing from CellMon (e.g. 802.11 b/g)
2. "BSSID" should be "AP MAC"
3. "Radioband" info does not match actual connection info.
4. "Radioband" should be "Channel"
5. "Datarate" should be "Data Rate"
6. Option to disable green LED and/or vibration notifications.
7. Single Wi-Fi graph should be two meters (like "Network Information" signal level) for both signal level and data rate as that is what Wi-Fi users would be interested in.

Perhaps, adamlau, you should be writing your own program instead of being so absurdly demanding of someone else's program, especially when he's giving that program away for free. Try asking nicely instead of coming across as an arrogant clod.
And I don't know where you're from, but no one I know of writes WiFi as Wi-Fi. WiFi is a perfectly acceptable.
1. Feedback does not constitute a demand, much less absurd demands.
2. Concrete and concise points should not be confused with arrogance. The feedback is conveyed in such a way that the developer can acknowledge at first glance which points are considered valid, or invalid.
3. WiFi is a commonly accepted reference to Wi-Fi. However, the Wi-Fi trademark is officially spelled Wi-Fi and not WiFi, or WiFI. But you were probably unaware of the this as clods typically are .

Well, I added the local IP, something the blackberry can't show on it's own.
Also the Radioband refers to one of 802.11 b/g/a, it's now shown correctly.
In future releases I might also include security and radio channel which is only available on OS 5.
I finished a new version with some improvements and bugfixes.
A beta version, that can show the used frequency bands is also available. For UMTS 2100 it can show the exact frequencies used for up and downlink.
Download ota here: cellmon.mooo.com/beta
Please tell me if it shows the frequency bands correctly with your carrier. My amount of test networks here is limited ;-)
I get this error message after downloading it "Error starting CellMon: Class 'net.rim.device.api.ui.TouchEvent' not found. I'm using a Bold 9000 and AT&T ver. 4.6 Do I need something else?

New features:
- shows currently used frequency band (GSM850, ...) as well as exact frequency used for uplink (tx) and downlink (rx).
- improved GUI, smaller fonts used
- shows current speed above signal strength graph (if device has GPS hardware)
Please not that the application can not always determine the exact band used. Sometimes it'll show things like GSM 1800/1900. This is because of overlapping channel numbers in the standard. Anyway, if you know where you are you can still make a conclusion from that. For example GSM 1800 is used in Europe, GSM 1900 in the US...
- Redesign for OS 5.0 (will only run on Blackberrys with OS 5)
- much greater stability
- charts for packets/data sent and received
- Had to remove BTS change events/log because it never ran satisfying (or stable)
