I did find this on the BB App World website.

"**BlackBerry Protect version 1.1.1.65 is and update for BlackBerry 7 devices only."

So it looks like the 7 folks got a bug fix.

I still have 1.1.1.62 and RIM really need to add password lock on the app. This app is useless if I lose the phone without a device password on. Anyone can just disable the app because there is no option to place a password to open the app.

EDIT: Yep, I got the update too... I will let you know if I find any issues.

What do you mean? Go to the App World and open My World and then refresh the app list. This should bring up the new version.

I do that too, but these days criminals are very cleaver. I know friends who lost their phones and hope since there is a Canada-wide block on the SIN number of the phone, the phone will be returned. But no.... we didn't get it back from anyone. The GPS location would be great if his phone had BB Protect at that time.

This is strange, I just put BlackBerry Protect on my 9930 Monday from my app list and I was on version .50 with no advisement of an update....even now. I'm deleting and reinstalling and see what happens

UPDATE, deleted and reinstalled and still showing BlackBerry Protect version 1.1.1.50, with no update at this time. I far behind in versions (confused)

    Got it..version 1.1.1.65

If you want to disable Protect, you need to enter your Blackberry ID and password. A Thief likely won't have that- the most common PW's that are used are pretty easy to get past.

When upgrading it told me it will replace a module that the BlackBerry Plans app uses. I went ahead but when I connect to BlackBerry Desktop it says automatically puts in the pending action to downgrade plans app module api catalyst something.

Did anyone encounter this? I believe my phone will run smoothly but the plans app might of been broken but I never knew what the Plans app does so I will continue on my day.

I encountered this as well, and have not yet updated because of that. Is it ok to go ahead and download although I'm getting this message about replacing the module BlackBerry Plans uses?

I updated earlier today, and my phone didn't go "clank." I'm on 9850, from VZW, so I'd imagine you'll be okay.

I use Appslock Pro (the one with the orange lock) to lock BB Protect. People would still need a password to open BB Protect if the device itself isn't locked.

I did the update, and now my phone will not detect my memory card. I tried reinserting it and multiple battery pulls. I have never had any problems with the mem card prior to installing the blackberry protect upgrade. Can anyone help?

Weird. With the memory card in your BB, and your BB hooked up to your PC/Mac via USB, does the memory card show up? If so, copy all contents to your PC/Mac. Once done check a couple pics/music files to make sure they are viewable/playable on your PC/Mac. If everything is OK, detach BB from PC/Mac, then try repairing your Memory card via your BB. -- You do this by Options > Device > Storage > Menu > Repair. If that doesn't work, use the format option instead. Once done, if your BB recognizes your media card, hook your BB back up to your PC/Mac, then copy your files(that you originally copied off the media card) back onto your Media card. Good luck!

Nothing has worked, so I've given up until I can grab my old Curve out of my storage unit and try the card in it, and its card in my Bold. I guess now I'm just hoping the card got corrupted, and it's nothing involving the phone itself. So weird though, that a simple software update could do that.

Just thought I'd follow up. I'd given up on my memory card issue, after trying several fixes included a full wipe of my device. And then this afternoon, I did a screen capture, and after saving the image, suddenly, my memory card was back. Rather bizarre!

Is it necessary to have Home Screen > Device > Location Settings > Location On ENABLED for Protect to use the Location services ?

If its disabled, won't protect still work ?

A thief can easily disable this "Location Settings GPS"
