I contacted the people over at UberTwitter and asked this same question. Is it technically possible to create a blackberry app that updates your BBM status (possibly over the internet or with a service like ping.fm)?

The UberTwitter people said there is "no programmatic way" to do this. Does anyone have more information on why there is no brute force way to override BBM status via an app? Are these guys wrong?

Because it would hookup to a service like ping.fm and could broadcast your status.

Currently if I update my ping.fm status (which can be done through SMS, email, IM, etc), it broadcasts to all my networks like FB, twitter, linkedin. What this app would do is add BBM as an additional service to broadcast to.

I hope I cleared up the redundancy question.
