App World doesn't have the latest versions - can I download from other source?
- It seems that the app versions available on BlackBerry App World are behind the versions that are available on the CrackBerry App Store.
If I've previously purchased an app via BB App World, can I download the latest version from CrackBerry or the developer's web site and install it via Desktop Manager? Or will I experience software conflicts and/or possible licensing issues?

Some apps even have a built in "check for update/upgrade" option. Best to check with the developer's site and/or their customer service. Good luck.02-25-10 09:16 PMLike 0
- Typically, if u bought it from appworld and go to developers site then it will count ur download as a new trial and will charge u. As dipizzo said, this won't be the case with all, but I too was on appworld and got frustrated by the delayed upgrades. I actually bit thw bullet for berryweather and waited til it was on sale at mobihand, then just bought another license from mobi to move away from appworld.

- App World is a pretty convenient way to get free RIM software (AIM, YIM, GTalk, Facebook, BBMessenger, etc.) and it's nice to be able to grab all that stuff from a single source after an OS upgrade, but I NEVER use it for paid apps. They are a terrible nuisance to developers, they take forever to offer updates on 3rd party stuff, half the time their search doesn't work, there's always random problems with interface (for example, the pulldown menu for how to sort search results is blank for me right now, so I can't see which option I'm choosing), etc.
By contrast, CrackBerry's MobiHand mobile app store is a fantastic way to keep track of all your paid apps. Sometimes I shop in App World if it's working well enough, because I like reading the reviews and the screenshots are bigger, but I NEVER buy from them. They're going to have to step up their game considerably if they hope to gain my business.02-25-10 11:30 PMLike 0 - Lots of good info. Thanks for the replies. Wish I had known about the drawbacks of BB App World before I bought the 5 apps that I already bought. Will be making future purchases from CrackBerry or MobiHand.02-25-10 11:50 PMLike 0
