Default Write protect error when trying to format card in PC

firstly, I wasn't sure what forum to post this in. I just purchased a larger SD card and am trying to format my 4gb card which was previously used in my tour for use in a Droid. Whenever I try to format the card in myPc I get an error message that the card is write protected. The tab on the SD holder is not in the locked position and I even tried another card holder. I can format the card in my bb and I end up with blank directories. The card however remains writeable only on the BB, readable but unwritable on my pc and totally unrecognized on the Droid. It seems as if the BB creates a file structure which can only be overwritten on a BB. Has anybody else encountered this and is anybody aware of a solution so my card can be used in another device. Thanks.
