Using another carriers OS.
Hello Everyone!
So I have a 8530, with my stock OS for Verizon, If I wanted to, Could I put the Sprint branded OS on my 8530 and still have it work with Verizon?
Any help would be great, Thanks!Perhaps life is just that...a dream and a fear. - 03-13-2010, 10:50 PM #2
Yes, you can use an OS from any carrier that matches your hardware. You cannot use a Bold OS on your 8530, for example, but you can use any carrier's 8530 OS. Unless it is a later version, however, it won't give you any different features. To load an alien OS, you simply have to delete the vendor.xml file from your PC. It does not exist on your BlackBerry. Use the windows search function to find it, and delete every occurrence. Deleting this file will not hurt anything. Its only function is to prevent you from loading another carrier's OS on your device.

The latest OS, which happens to be from Sprint, is stickied at the top of the 8520/8530 forum, along with instructions for installing it.

Could I use any 8520/8530 OS?
Or Does it have to be just from CDMA carriers?Perhaps life is just that...a dream and a fear. - 03-13-2010, 11:41 PM #6--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)
