Upgrading to OS 5.0 on 85XX

Hi everyone, just a question about upgrading from OS 4.6 to 5.0 on my 8520
Please. I have Desktop Manager 5 on laptop, can I just download OS 5 to handset? Also what benefits are there to OS5?

I have a Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8530. It tells me there's an update for my phone 5.0.0.94 whatever. I click on up on update and then It stays stuck on Submitting Update Request. Then never updates. Anyways to clear and restart the update? Or another way to update? I'm an android user so I'm not familiar with BBOS.
