Default Questions about OS5 upgrade?

I'm thinking of upgrading to OS5 from 4.6.231 using desktop software. Is this the easiest way to do so? I've read a bunch of posts and I think I'll go for the .681 but I've never done an OS upgrade and I have a couple questions.

1) Will my apps be affected?
2) Will my media card be affected? (should I remove it before hand)
3) Is it easy to reverse if something goes wrong?

I don't feel that I really need to upgrade cause I only use my BlackBerry for talk and text 90% of the time but everyone I talk to says it's like getting a new phone so I'm interested. Also a lot of apps and what not are being made for OS5. I just don't want to be left behind.

**I do have a full data plan and I'm not a genius but I am comfortable using a computer. I don't know if that matters**

what you need to do. Download the os of your choice and install it on your pc. open blackberry desktop and do a full back up and close desktop manger. pull your memory card just for fun. ( better safe then sorry) now the fun part. use "JL Cmder" and wipe the device. The on your pc open my computer and navigate to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader folder. delete the file "vender.xml" if you do not see the vender file you will need to google on how to show "hidden and system files" after deleting click the apploader program. chose the items you wish to install and let it run. afterward open the blackberry desktop software and do a restore. everything back on the new os. all apps. contacts and what not. to go back do the same thing. Make sure to uninstall all old OS's in your computer remove programs area.

Default Just to be on the safe side...

I don't remember losing my 3d party apps anytime, but you should (just in case) search the forums for ways to backup the 3d party apps before wiping the phone...

Then, you could also try to reduce the size of the OS by removing unwanted apps and languages. I got 50MB in a "Removed Files" folder from files I manually removed from the loader. But there's a couple of programs that can do this for you also, with varying levels of detail.

Also, I've NEVER wiped my device and didn't got any problems... but doing it may help.
