Default Question about installing OS Upgrades

I will be getting my wife a Torch in the next couple of weeks. I know that the Original OS on it (I believe .141) is OK, but not that great. I also know that AT&T has a bunch of their own programs and stuff already installed on the phone. My question is, if I install one of the leaked versions of the OS, do I lose all the AT&T programs as well or are they still there? If I had any of my own apps installed, I assume I would have to reinstall those, but having never owned a BB, I just want to be sure before I start doing all this.

During an OS upgrade/install, you have the option to backup your data and apps which will all reinstall after the OS install.

I don't know if AT&T still does this with the Torch, but most of the added stuff was simply pushed to your phone via service books. At least that's how it is with my Pearl. After installing any other carriers OS, it still looked like regular AT&T home screen once all the added junk came in. The network detects whether you have them or not when your phone boots up. If they aren't there, like after a fresh OS installation, then they are resent along with your email re-registration (if you have any set up in the BIS or BES). This all happens automatically so that after everything is installed and a reboot, the phone should be all set and ready to continue being used as before.
