Smile Problems Downgrading Blackberry 8900 O.S.

Like many other Blackberry users, I recently upgraded my O.S. then discovered that my phone no longer rings and I don't get alerts. I came across "How to downgrade your Blackberry's O.S." and followed the steps as described.

I uninstalled the latest version of OS software. In fact, I removed all Blackberry software from my computer and then ran C-Cleaner to remove any remaining files.

Next, I reinstalled the earlier version 4.6 of the Desktop Manager software and Blackberry OS.

I already had a backup file on my computer, so I skipped to the JL_CMDR step and this is when I encountered a problem. I get all the way to step 11 and type "blackberry" but instead of getting a white screen with 507 error message, I have a white screen with a box in the centre surrounded by a circle and a message "Reload Software". There is also a number, but it is tiny: I think it says 587, or it could be 507.

When I go to the next step and try to load the Blackberry OS using "Add/Remove Application", I get a message that says:
"A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again". I cannot get beyond this step.

I have gone through the steps three times, but I get stuck at this point on each occasion. I now have a Blackberry that will not turn off and is stuck in this message screen.

Can anyone help me? I have spent hours trying to resolve this problem on my own. Thank you :-)

When I try to go to step 4 and load the Blackberry OS, I keep getting a message "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again". I can't get beyond this step.

I would make sure and use a rear port on the PC, check the power settings in control panel->system->hardware->device settings->USB hubs->right click and choose properties->verify that power management is set to 500mA. If that's all right, try a new USB cable, and spend the extra for an OEM.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on correcting this problem. I tried your suggestions without success and in the end called my service provider. They were unable to correct it and I'm now getting a new Blackberry.
