Hey everyone... Hopefully a question that you can answer for me in my confusion!

I just got off the phone with AT&T. I got my Bold a couple of weeks ago and was having terrible reception problems. They did a few items on their end and then told me it wouldnt hurt to update to the new OS. When I went on www.att.com/bbdownloads, it says that OS 4.6.0.517 is the newest one available. So I installed it but when I go into options > about it says 4.6.0.297? Is this right or did I do something wrong? The tech lady also said when I updated to .517, I could get visual voice mail for free. Any help out there would be great! - 10-08-2009, 07:12 PM #28
4.6.0.517 is the build. 4.6.0.297 is the actual OS. The woman from AT&T is correct that this is the most recent official AT&T version.
If you want, you could use 4.6.0.303, which is the most recent official version from any carrier. You just need to delete the vendor xml file if you use 4.6.0.303.--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

AT&T just pushed OS 4.6.0.297 to my Bold. I already have OS 4.6.0.297 installed! Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get it to go away? Or should I go through the installation? I don't really want to have to set up all my apps again, especially for an OS I already have installed.
And to PennStBoy8, YES, you can get VVM with .297
After looking closer, the platform version is .247 instead of .243. I currently have .243. Should I install?Last edited by QueSi; 10-08-2009 at 07:29 PM.

Yes. I installed .297 first, then I logged in to MyWireless account on my PC and signed up for VVM there. I created my own password and the provisioning worked. Some folks have needed to call customer service because they got provisioning errors, but I had no issues.
I've actually been using VVM since early September. I got the first version of .297 before it was pulled. I recently upgraded to the new version of .297.--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

I detested the first .297 version...since battery life was questionable, and I had quite a few failed calls where I had none with .282 before. But, the new .297v2 from AT&T seems to be rocking along at least as good as my fave version (4.6.0.282) has ever done. Thumbnail pics open a tad slow...but overall, it's a good performer.

How is the battery life and memory on this build along with the picture loading time? The only reasons I have not yet updated my OS from .266 is because of that it was horrid the first time around at&t released the OS. Has it gotten better, worse or no change? If not then I'll just keep what I got no use in fixing something that's not broken.

I'm on 4.6.0.237 (an unofficial one) and the wireless update doesn't work as you've mentioned. How do I go about updating this now or reverting to an official ATT one so that I can use the wireless update?

Edit: I went to the RIM website and it appears that it is allowing me to update through my PC. It is going through the "45 minute process" so hopefully that works. I will update here after it's done.
Edit2: I was able to upgrade from nonofficial to the higher official one through the RIM website. :-)Last edited by DrJeff; 10-27-2009 at 03:17 PM.

nope. That's only for installing operating systems that are not of your native carrier (ex: any overseas international carrier)
Also, you may start getting used to deleteing the vendor xml file cause AT&T's track record of releasing operating systems are few and far between. Most international carriers release other operating systems as seen on the front page of CB. Hope that helps!
