Default NEWB - Help with OS/Email

Hello all, i am new to the forum and also BB.

I have recently purchased a BB Curve 8520 which is on the Orange Network, so i have unlocked the phone so i can use on the O2 Network.

All has gone well, the phone is unlocked and working on O2.

I would like to setup my e-mails using my pop3 accounts, but do not have the option when i go to 'Set-up e-mail' the only option i get is 'I want to use my work e-mail account with BES'. I have done research on the web and noticed on a few Youtube videos there is a second choice for setting up POP3

Is it the Orange software on the phone that will not allow me to setup POP3 e-mail. I have loaded an O2 Version 5 software (removed vendor.xml), and i expected when the phone turned on i would get an O2 symbol, but i still get the Orange symbol and the menu's have not changed, thus the second e-mail option is not there.

Have i loaded the new O2 software correctly?
Should i get an O2 symbol on start up?
And the main question - How can i set up POP3 e-mail

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Your phone is, and always will be, Orange branded.

It's hard-coded into the device and there's nothing you can do about that. Even loading software from another network won't change it.

The reason you can't set up your pop3 email account through the 'Email Setup' option has nothing to do with the phone software, it's because that option is for the BlackBerry push email service for which you need a BlackBerry data plan. Do you have one? If not, I suggest you get one coz you're kinda goosed without.

As soon as you have an active BB data plan, the option to set up your personal BIS email account will appear and you're good to go.

As for pop3 email, that was soooo yesterday... welcome to today, welcome to BlackBerry

d'oh, i have been a bit of a dummy

I thought the BB may function like other smartphones, in that i could just collect (pop3) e-mails via my O2 data tariff and not actual need a BB account.

Doesn't seem like the case, oh well looks like its going back on Ebay

Thanks
