Help me guys !!!!!

Hi,
My name is Ankur and i am from India. I am using curve 8520 v4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135) which my brother living in UK gifted me. Now my friends says there is a upgrade version 5 is available and when i connect my phone with the computer via desktop manager it shows a v5 update..
Now my questions are

1. Can i update my curve in India because the phone was purchased from UK and when ever i switch on the mobile phone it shows T Mobile in welcome screen. Will it give any sort of problem if i try to do that?
2. And if i can upgrade then is there is any possibilities that i lost all my BBM contacts? If yes than how can i save those contacts?

Pls help me in It, as i am totally new in this Blackberry thing and i don't know a single thing about it .

1 seems there is no problem with upgrade, but device will works faster and better
2 no, all you contact related to your PIN
please do backup with DM before upgrade

Check out BB 101 in the help forums for lots of advice about your phone. Upgrade is simple with the instructions around here. All will be saved if you are sure to backup first.
