Device Manager and 9550 Not Getting Along

Alright... I feel that I have exhausted every possibility of fixing this problem on my own - So hopefully someone here knows what do do!
I performed an update on my BlackBerry this morning to discover (without doing a back up) that the update deleted EVERYTHING from my phone. However, I did do an update in the summer, which should at least recover most of my contacts and pictures. (Yay!)
Only problem - The desktop manager will not recognize my phone. When I plug my phone in, it switches to bedside and shows that its charging, and an auto play window appears asking me how I want to view my files. When I open the desktop manager, it says disconnected, but does display my PIN and phone number.
When I go to the Device Manager on my computer (Windows Vista), it is saying BlackBerry device with a yellow "!" next to it, and that it is enabled... However now when I try to connect it, it is saying that it is an "Unknown Device". Curious.
The other forums I looked at suggested to follow through with the "Update Driver Software"... So I do, and it either tells me that I'm installing something else and to finish that before starting this one (which I'm not), or that the timeout period has expired.
I would absolutely LOVE to be able to restore some of my info... Please help!
