BB Maps on OS5
Well I have not seen a thread with a 4.6 type solution and personally I was shocked that it worked on my 9700 running .415 that I tried it on my wife's 9700 running the latest official OS5 release from AT&T. It again worked.
Go to m.blackberry.com on your 9700. Then go to the very bottom and choose downloads. The next site will have an installer link for BB Maps like the one for 4.6. Follow the prompts to install the OS5 ribbon file. This will get the BB Maps icon on your BB Menu!
This all assumes the base BB Maps application is already installed on your device.

Can't get this to work on ATT 9700. I see it in the apps list under options but the icon won't show.

I am on 2 AT&T 9700s. It worked on both exactly as I stated initially. Old blue has not blocked BB Maps. They only blocked the appearance of the icon if running their theme.

I have heard it will not appear if using the default theme. I personally have never tested that. I just did this again after going to 421 with no issues.

u can use quicklaunch or the other installer someone made. i have a program called blackstar navigation that has a link to open blackberry maps which works perfect since it's installed on the bold, but att hides it somehow.

I went to mobile.blackberry.com on the 9700 and went to download Blackberry Maps(which is already installed on my device). It downloaded the lds_ribbon and I have the icon now. Worked fine for me.
I'm using the default at&t theme and running the stock .296 at&t os. - 12-13-2009, 12:15 AM #20Device list: 7250> 8700C > HTC Tilt> 8300> 8310> 9700> Samsung Captivate

On my bold 9000, I used the lds_ribbon installer as well. I just had to download it again each time I reloaded or upgraded my OS.

Use QuickLaunch to unlock your elusive BB Maps!
I Just started using QuickLauncher...a great app overall, but an added bonus is the ability to add BB Maps as a shortcut...ATT be damned!!!! I also subscribe to TeleNav as I am in sales and use the application almost daily. I just hate when carriers get in the way of my phones functionality...I pay a lot of $$$ for my service and equipment, ATT has some balls to tell me what features of my phone I can or can't use.
