| | BB acting up after update to OS 5.0.0.973
OK, so last night I updated from OS 5.0.0.886 to 5.0.0.973, the update that came in between I wasn't aware of until after already updating to the most recent.
Right out of the gate my phone was giving me problems as it didn't want to update and kept freezing. Finally got the update completed, phone rebooted and everything seemed fine, only thing I noticed was the trackpad seemed more responsive as well as there was less lag while navigating the screen.
Anyway, before the update, when charging my phone it would display the digital clock on the screen and go into Bedside Mode automatically. After the update it wasn't doing this although the settings all seemed to appear to be the same. While going through my settings to figure out why it wasn't doing that anymore my BB suddenly decided to reboot itself. After it rebooted I continued to search for a reason for that feature to not work, but couldn't find anything. Sometime later I noticed my phone had rebooted again for a second time.
Today I've also noticed that just before any of my ringtones go off, my phone makes a loud popping noise from the speakers a split second before hand. Also, when I plugged it into my laptop the phone rebooted instantly. I just performed a battery pull which fixed the Bedside Mode problem, however, the phone is still making this very annoying loud popping noise just before any ringtone/alert sounds. As far as it rebooting itself, only time will tell if that is fixed or not.
This is just what I've noticed since the update about 12 hours ago (5-6 hours of which I was asleep). Anyone else had these problems? Especially the popping noise?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT - UPDATE
I just discovered my music is jacked for lack of a better word. Before the OS update I had about 25 songs on my MicroSD card. When I check it showed 36 because it duplicated some songs as well as somehow added back a sample song I had previously deleted and threw in a few ringtones too. Plugged it into PC, opened DM, then all of a sudden my phone showed it only had 6 songs... the sample song as well as one song duplicated five times, none of which I can delete. I close DM, open the BB as removable memory on my PC and it shows the original 25 songs I should have, but without duplicates. So my device, DM and my PC all say something different and I can't edit the songs on any of them. If I attempt to sync with DM, it just duplicates everything I already have and then won't allow me to delete the duplicates. Very frustrating!
Performed a second battery pull and the music issue seems to be resolved. There is still the very annoying loud popping noise coming from my BB speaker seconds prior to a ringtone/alert going off which the battery pull has not gotten rid of.
Any suggestions?

Where do you sync your contacts that its not working (Outlook, Yahoo)?
Oh and BTW, I'm a she and not a he ;-) LOL

Also, I get this when it boots - uncaught exception: java.lang.nullpointerException | Unfortunately everything I have found online concerning the "uncaught exception" has involved people either having to restore the device from a backup, completely wipe the device then install the OS again or have the device replaced altogether. I would suggest creating a new topic focusing on just this error in hopes that someone else with more expertise than myself can help as I don't know enough about BB's to know if these are the only options Sorry!

I discovered a couple more issues that I'm unhappy with...
First, when I delete my Gmail off my device it no longer gives me the option to Delete From Device or Delete From Mailbox and Device. Now I have to delete from my device AND go online to delete from my mailbox too, which is just a pain.
Second, my Turn Power Off app doesn't work any more. The end call/power button only puts it into standby, however, turning it off through the App used to give me two options; Power Of Device or Full Power Off Device. The first option would do the same as holding the end call button whereas the Full Power Off would completely turn it off so it had to reload when turned back on. After the update it still worked, however, either option I chose would just do the same thing as the end call/power button. Now today, after my third battery pull (at least) it gives me no options and strictly does what the end call/power button does. Which seems rather pointless.
Now it just seems like every time I do a battery pull it might fix one thing, but something different screws up

I installed .973 today. My clock won't appear when charging even after a battery pull (8530). Plus, if I start the clock manually, and enter bedside mode, the clock still dims even though I set it not to dim.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | I was finally able to resolve my clock/bedside mode on .973, however, it wasn't until the second or third battery pull that it actually straightened out. So try pulling the battery again and see if that resolves it.
I have further updates which I will be back shortly with to post for anyone else having similar issues.

| | Bedside Mode stopped working in .973
Two 8530 devices have been working very well since February 2010. Updated both devices to ver .973 last week. Since the update neither device will automatically enter into bedside mode when I plug the wall charger into them. All of the settings are correct. I'm using the same factory wall chargers. I've done two wipes, reinstalled the .973 update, done battery pulls ... nothing seems to work. However, when I plug the BB USB cable into either device the bedside mode works perfectly. The USB cable is plugged into a powered hub. Huh?????? What's up with that? I spent three hours yesterday working with the carrier and with BlackBerry directly. They tell me they are testing what I've told them to see if they can get the same issue to present itself in their tests. I told them I'm not a computer programmer but that looking at the facts --- two 8530s that worked perfectly in bedside mode, until now, are both having the same issues after installing the 973 update. Could it be a programming glitch? The carrier told me they have not had any complaints about this before my complaint yesterday. BlackBerry is not commenting. THEN I COME TO THIS SITE AND READ YOUR POSTS. And you all represent a fraction of the many BB users who have downloaded the 973 update and are having issues. Yeah, right ... no other complaints! I'll keep monitoring your posts and try the things that seem to be working for you with this glitch. Hopefully it can be resolved. Thanks to all.

Well, not only does Bedside mode not work anymore, but I had to reinstall a couple of apps that stopped working: AP Mobile and Google Maps. At least they are working again, but a pain all the same.
I really liked Bedside mode. I hope the get it working again soon.
I just found out that my Blackberry Podcasts channels are gone along with all of my downloaded podcasts. The podcast files seem to still be on the media card, but the app doesn't know about them. As for the channels, looks like I have to start over again unless someone can tell me how to restore them.

I was so frustrated with my BB there were times I had to sit it down and walk away because I was about to throw it.
When I first installed the .973 update I would plug it in and it wouldn't show my clock or go into Bedside Mode. I believe it was something like the second or third time I performed a battery pull that it finally started working again, but I also did a soft reset in between. So I don't know which fixed it... my guess is maybe the soft reset since they seem to associate soft reset with software, but who knows. Just like you, the first thing I checked was the settings which were exactly as they had been. So it was definitely something with the update that screwed it up and one of the resets that fixed it.
If you can provide us with a link or something to complain to RIM Blackberry about this issue I know I would personally be more than happy to after the three day ordeal this update has put me through. I'm to the point now where I think Blackberry is the Windows of cellular phones... they have updates every 15 minutes that only screw things up LOL!
But good luck, I hope you get yours straightened out soon :-)
