Buy a Passport it's much more durable! For googledroids alcatel smartphones you should ask in the android os thread.

I'm not sure why you would tell someone to buy a passport when they are clearly looking for the Mercury. It sounds like a response from a sales guy in a carrier store when you walk into to buy a blackberry and they try to sell you an iphone.

Every consumer has their own motives for purchasing , I can only assume that the Mercury is attractive to the OP

Yeah... How exactly can you compare durability of a phone that has not yet been released? I love Internet experts.

I own a Passport and know that its a tough phone. But who's to say the Mercury won't be as tough? It's not even out yet.

Also, Alcatel phones are different from BlackBerry phones, despite the OS.

I'm not saying that it's a low quality product, but I have my personal impressions, and viewing all the videos on youtube, that hardware is not comparable to a BlackBerry in-house build, even the kb...but we'll see, those are just my impressions. One thing I can be sure, the googledroid it's non secured as the bb10 os yet...And in any case I am certainly not akin to googledroids phones...

I can't remember the last product they had that wasn't outsourced to Mexico/China/Hungary/wherever.

But at least it was designed in-house.

They had some locally built Passports but they were short production runs, so technically Passport was. It just wasn't the MAJORITY of their inventory.

I think Verizon variants of BB10 devices were also made in Canada (also short runs), but general purpose manufacturing was always in other countries.
