I updated my router to dual band ( Nighthawk R 7000 ) and the 5 GHz blows past the old 2.4 speed wise for my 5 GHz capable devices. I did expect some signal to distance drop off at 5 GHz but surprisingly that improved dramatically as well. Same house. I went with a Nighthawk
R 7000 and am glad I did. I would not make a phone decision based on lack of 5 GHz alone but lack of same will hurt already lackluster Leap sales due to market demands spec wise for new phones. Chen has definitely deemphasized hardware development for more "customer facing" folks, (gotta love that corporate new speak) and I think he will offload or close down hardware production at some point because it makes business sense and Chen has that.
Which router did you use before?

an older model SBG (Surfboard - about 4 yrs old) don't recall model # and also used an AT&T dsl 2 wire. Neither had a/c or 5 GHz but I believe the SBG had wireless N.

I have a Netgear R6100, and the 5GHZ is less than stellar, even sitting just a few feet from the router. Having said that, the Z10 isn't what I would call awesome on 5GHZ anyway, not even compared to my son's Galaxy S3 Mini.
The best range and throughput I actually have, when I dig out my old 2006 Belkin Pre-N MIMO router. With it I can go down into the backyard more than couple of hundred feet away from it and still have WiFi.

hmmm, i have an older Belkin N model I used with AT&T DSL (till they dropped residential DSL in my area) and that also had good throughput but now that I actually have the R7000 doing everything I need it to reverting would be inventing trouble. Glad yours works well.
