After trying 2 new speakers in my leap with the same crackling unintelligible result we put in a speaker out of a Sony Xperia Z2 and it works fantastic - better than new. The speaker looks very close to the same...

That actually sounds pretty awesome. Any more details, pics or instructions?

Sorry - didn't take pics. The rear loudspeaker is easy to get at and replace on the Leap (unlike the Z30). The Sony speaker we used is basically the same as the Leap speaker (except it actually works). There are many videos online to take the Leap apart.

    Is there soldering involved?

No Soldering. The speaker just pops out and has connectors on it that touch pads on the back of the circuit board when reassembled.

Where did you buy the Sony speaker? Model number?

Kinda strange that they didn't use a better speaker out of the factory when it seems like such a simple thing to improve.
