Can I (or a friend in Canada) buy an unlocked KEYone in two weeks from a CARRIER that would work better in the US then waiting two weeks for the "official" US Launch on 5/31? It seems Canadian CARRIERS will get it on 5/18 with zero confirmations from any US Carriers.

    Thx.

The BBB100-1 is the North American version. BBB100-2 is for Europe and doesn't have all the US bands. There is also the BBB100-3 version for CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint.

Any phone bought from a Canadian carrier is almost certain to be locked to that carrier, but can be unlocked.

I had this same question. Looking to get one to work on Verizon but could buy from Canada easily.

You would have to get the bbb1003 version that won't be selling in Canada

Aren't the pre-orders starting on may 18th and not actual sales? From whatvi am reading it seems that the actual sales will go live the 31st.

The USA/Canada KEYone (BBB100-1) has bands that aren't in the European one (BBB100-2), namely LTE bands 12, 19, 29, 30, 40 and 41. Of those, only bands 12, 29 and 30 are used by American GSM carriers. Band 12 is T-Mobile's Extended Range LTE, while Band 29/30 perform similar functions for AT&T. I would recommend waiting for the Canadian model. And if you're on Verizon or Sprint then you'd essentially have to get the BBB100-3, from them.

MWC put it at $550 US ($750 CAD), 600 EUR ($890 CAD), or 500 GBP ($880 CAD):

Distinctly Different. Distinctly BlackBerry. TCL Communication Launches All-new BlackBerry® KEYone

Selfridges is selling at the 500 GBP mark so you can guess the other prices are holding:

BlackBerry KEYone now available in the UK in retail first at Selfridges | CrackBerry.com

So, somewhere in the $800 range.

No one has advertised a Canadian unlocked K1 yet, but you can do the math.

    $549 US/ 0.73 = $752 Canadian.

I'll believe it when they announce the price.

Still holding out for 699 instead of 750.

Regardless I'll buy at either price as long as it is cheaper than the priv which it will be

If you walk into a Canadian phone store and offer cash for an unlocked phone they can't do it?

Some stores do , some do not.

Carriers want you on a plan so they can make continuous money from you .

What I usually do is call all the stores and ask before I go there.

Worked great when I bought the passport, called a couple shops and only one said yes on launch day.

The major Canadian carriers (Telus, Bell, Rogers) usually advertise a full retail price on their websites, probably just to make their plan purchase prices more temping.

You should be able to walk into a carrier store and purchase one at the retail price advertised on their website. Choose a major store, and call first to make sure they have one in stock though. And assume you'll have to unlock it.

Got it, and if it's purchased @ full retail it would be totally unlocked? Thanks.

No, it's not likely to be unlocked, but you can do that through a site like www.unlock.canadagsm.ca

Never had a problem buying a phone outright in Canada via Rogers or Telus...i can't speak for Bell. Although, I'd by direct from BlackBerry to getting the phone unlocked
