I chatted with Rogers on Facebook and got this:

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us. We are all so excited about this new Blackberry; looking forward to getting my hands on one myself! Starting May 18th, you will be able to pre-order the Blackberry KEYone directly on Rogers: Wireless, Internet, TV, Home Monitoring, and Home Phone. 🙂

Do unlocked devices bought through sources other than carriers usually become available sooner than devices through carriers?

In Canada, it is the 18th for preorder from carriers, and unlocked on sale the 31st from BB Mobile we assume.

I will likely try to get an unlocked pre-order on Rogers. I am a Virgin Mobile client though.

Usually you just pre-order then when you go in store to pickup your device you can get this done. I did this for my Note 7, are they offering trade in towards the KEYone?

Anyone think there will be pre-order incentives like case or SD card etc. or just regular device only?

Just checked both the Bell Mobility site and it shows the KEYone as coming soon, and on the Telus site when you search for KEYone it doesn't lead to a KEYone Page but it does lead you to a couple of BlackBerry help topics, so they do have the KEYone embedded somewhere on their site. May 18th does indeed look good for Canadian carriers as the pre-order date.

Might be something there. I was in Burlington today, and there was a Rogers event upstairs at Shoeless Joe's. They had BlackBerry KEYone posters on the main level. I didn't go upstairs to check it out as I was entertaining a client. I wish I had though.

Which does NOT equate to a factory unlocked device, meaning you're still bound to their update schedule.

Not trying to rain on Kitmo's news but the 18th has been the date for a while now - BlackBerry KEYone Canadian carrier partners and availability announced | CrackBerry.com it's not a shocking revelation Canadian carriers are gearing up.

Also, Rogers Twitter accounts have been touting KEYone news, they even did an unboxing yesterday. - https://twitter.com/i/moments/864484443985203201

If I could afford it, I'd be ordering direct from BB and using it on Freedom Mobile. Rogers, Bell and Telus (Robellus) are all crooks charging stupidly high prices for little to no talk time and data. Also, Robellus doesnt like to keep thier products up to date, and by that I mean software updates. They'd rather you buy a new phone and get commission and more money than keep your current one.

Are you sure you're not thinking about Kevin buying some SIM cards for the KEYone pre-production models he has?

No, somewhere over the last month there was a discussion about buying unlocked phones from carriers. Someone (maybe Kevin) commented that some carriers are happy to take the money for an unlocked cell phone and don't insist on plans if you want unlocked.
