Merc will be an awesome phone. My guess is that it will go down as the best BlackBerry ever, even passing the 9900. I say this in regards to the size and shape in conjunction with the PKB.

Outfitted with Android will be a downer, but I'm not referring to that.

Samsung dropping the ball on the Note 7 and halting production is huge. Talk about bad timing for BlackBerry (as usual)...they should immediately call off current plans to shut down device development, at least at the design level.

There is an opening in the market that has tarnished Samsung and BlackBerry has the reputation and reliability behind it to at least partially fill that gap.

Those plans were in the works for a long time. There is no way it was just decided in September. Proof of that is they did absolutely nothing (besides twitter) to push any devices since they launched the Priv like a year ago. Had Chen actually been trying to make handsets profitable before his so called deadline, you would think he would have out in a little more effort.
At the point they seem to just be riding out these last couple of devices they committed to. Heck it's so bad that a couple of sites have pre-order pages up for the dtek60 and BlackBerry has yet to even mention the thing.

Because of the recall, it has already been forecasted (and by Apple) that there will be 15M new iPhone users this upcoming Holiday Season.

Even with the proper advertising, BlackBerry could only expect to gain a fraction of that number.

You'd think that the note market would be an absolute natural for Blackberry, but apparently not.

Yes but this will resonate far beyond Note 7...it will affect the entire reputation of the brand. There will be opportunities to win back customers at all price points not just high end. And by the way, whoever is saying (even Apple...lol) that 15M high end Samsung customers will jump ship and go iPhone because of this is ludicrous.
