Doesn't anyone else have a nagging doubt, looking at this phone, thinking that it looks just like any other generic Android but with a tiny little keyboard tacked on to the bottom?

Not sure. I'm just a bit underwhelmed. It's sad that there is no longer anything on the market with Q10 / Classic dimensions.

    I'll keep it simple: No.

I think the keyboard is a huge differentiator and the silver on the top stands out.

You're limited to 3:2 aspect ratio, so the Q10/Classic form factor is dead.

The keyboards on the Mercury and Classic are the same width, and the only way to make the Mercury smaller is to make its keyboard quite a bit narrower.

Not really. I can easily pick it out, just like almost every other phone. They're all very different, unless you include version increments.

Edit: unless it involves Windows Phone devices, I don't have a lot of experience with those. Verizon ftw.

But I do hope it takes off corporately. I want the Dtek75 with better specs and multiple notification colors

Not at all. You aren't going to mistake this phone for any other on the market. Yes it will be android, but with an amazing PKB.

Without looking it up, is 4:3 OHA compliant? That would shorten the screen a bit from 3:2

Can't say I agree. I think it's one of the most unique phones sold today aesthetically, simply because it has a physical keyboard.

An android blackberry with Q10/classic dimensions would be just as useless as a Q10 or classic. Android apps do not work well with square screens. That was unfortunately the biggest downfall with the passport. Being able to watch video, for example, was a pain in the rear end on a square screened device because if you were to rotate it, nothing happens. It's a perfect square.

Not at all. And wait for your final conclusions until you have actually handled the device. Sure this one is even better in real life!

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons for me wanting to get this phone is because it looks so different to every other generic Android device!

Some people take smartphones too serious.

Mercury is like no other. Very clean machine. Either buy it or pout elsewhere :-)

I don't mind the look of the Mercury, but I will say I'd love to see an updated version of my first phone that introduced me to power of BlackBerry software: the Siemens SK65.

It will probably never happen due to practicality and probable cost of production, but to update that one by replacing the numerical keyboard and display a full touch screen face and keep something similar to that swivel out pkb... Talk about "shut up and take my money!"

Ya know I was promised a virtual screen and keyboard with the chip implant. It was foretold along with my flying car once the year 2000 occured.
I demand this be made true now!

When seeing my BlackBerry, I've had many people say that they loved their old BlackBerry keyboard, but they needed to get an android for this reason or that. I think that there is a good sized section of the 40 somethings and up that would really like the keyboard along with android. It will come down to carrier sales, and how well TCL can get sales reps to push the new phones.

Wow, and every other post are people complaining that it looks too different...

Apparently this is the "elephant in the room" for you only...
